Chapter 15

As soon as I opened the door to Amanda's work colleague, Ross I relaxed. Alex had nothing to worry about. Okay, Ross was cute with his spiky blond hair, big blue eyes and slim figure. Like me, he was on the short side for a guy and a bit effeminate. He was far too much like me—almost a mirror image in fact—to ever be my type. If anything, I was the one who should worry he might appeal to Alex if they should ever meet.

What had Amanda been thinking when she set me up with this guy? She must have known we were too alike to ever be interested in each other. Add to that, the fact Ross was most definitely a bottom, and a relationship had no chance of ever getting off the ground. I didn't need to ask Ross about his preference. I could spot a fellow bottom a mile off. By the way he was looking at me, his assessment of me was pretty much the same.

“Sorry,” Ross said. “I guess I had a wasted journey.”

“Looks like it,” I replied evenly. “But you're welcome to come in for a tea or coffee if you’d like.”

He nodded and stepped inside the flat. I closed the door behind him and we smiled at each other awkwardly. I hated to admit it, but it was a relief to learn he was not the dominant top type. At least, this way, I could blame the failure of the date on our being incompatible, which was entirely Amanda's fault. I could keep Alex a secret for a while longer and Amanda wouldn't disown me.

“So, you don't look like the kind of guy who needs fixing up with blind dates,” I said over my shoulder as I stood at the sink to fill the kettle. “How come you agreed to this?”

“I could say the same for you,” Ross said, settling on a stool at the breakfast bar. “Amanda said you'd been through a rough time with an ex. Is that why she's setting you up with blind dates?”

I shrugged. “It's complicated. Amanda thinks she's helping but she's not really. I'm not looking for anyone else. I've tried telling her, but she won't listen.” Kettle on, I leaned back against the counter, folding my arms across my chest. “You didn't answer my question.”

“About why I agreed to come tonight?” Ross smiled at me. “Well, she didn't tell me you were a bottom for a start. I thought I had a chance of getting laid.”

“Yeah, I'll have to explain the two bottoms thing to her when I see her.”

“Seriously though, I just moved here a couple of months ago. I don't really know anyone yet, or where the best places are to go.”

“For a hook up? Or are you looking for that someone special?”

“I don't know. Either, I guess.”

“You should go to Keane's then,” I told him. “It's on Cambourne Road. Most guys there are only interested in getting their leg over, but there are some genuine guys there who are looking for something steady.
